Why are people so careless when the tree fell down to your car and home?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The strong wind knocked down my neighbor’s tree onto my car and part of my house. The neighbor across my house laughed out loud about it. My car was brand new. The owner of the tree did not want to take responsibility at all and he didn’t apologize to us. He told us to claim my own insurance. I said IF my tree fell down to your house/car, I’m responsible for it.
He said he didn’t not push the tree down so he was not at fault and not responsible. I called 911 four times and they refused to send me a police to make a police report. They said it wasn’t a criminal and it was mother nature. This is how I got the public service for being a good citizen and pay taxes. I called my insurance, they told me to get a police report.
Why people are so careless about this? Don’t they know that it could happen to them one day?
If one day it happened to them, they would feel what I feel.
I need your opinion.
It is mother nature ‘acts of God’ and it will happen to you one day no matter where you are, no matter how bad you are or how nice you are, how rich or poor, how smart or dumb, how old or young. It will happen to you one day. Do you understand?
It will happen to you in just a matter of time. No matter where you live or how safe you are. It will happen to you one day!

how many times and how many different ways can you ask this question? god, I’ve answered you twice already

How Is Everyone’s Property After The Wind Storms In The Southern States This Week???

Monday, September 28th, 2009

We were away, still are actually. Our property got hit really hard. My BBQ & outdoor setting ended up inside my house, through a glass sliding window =(
A couple of fences and trees blown over, but compared to a few neighbours we got off lightly! My neighbour lost his roof!

I haven’t seen the damage yet. Dreading going back. Thankfully none of the animals were injured!! So grateful to my farm hand for looking after everything!

How about you guys??
Well we are ok, still got a home. I was watching the news, and they said some of Melbourne didn’t have power. And I noticed one of my much loved contacts hasn’t been on nearly all week.
I hope she is ok, she lives in Melbourne.

Crazy here in SA too - thankfully my home had no problems at all! i was a bit worried that a tree would fall on my car at work!!
Hope your damage isnt too bad :(

car insurance claims?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

I’ve always had car insurance but recent;y bought a new car (one month ago). Today I saw a weather report that a big storm was heading our way with hail so I got online and decreased by non-collision deductible to 100 from 500. This was able one hour before the storm hit. The hail damage on my car in bad, not horrible but bad. I’m afraid that the insurance company will not want to cover the damage with the 100 deductible. Anyone have any experience or knowledge to share.

Insurance carriers know when someone is trying to defraud the company…they know that weather reports are available to everyone and are particularly suspicious when they get an influx of requests for a change in deductibles so close to when a known storm hits. It is quite possible they will deny your claim. Not only that, this is cause for them to cancel your policy, so be careful!

Help! My sunroof leaks, is there anyway to fix it or at least stop it myself without taking it to a mechanic?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I bought a 03 dodge neon sxt about a month ago, it hadnt rained until recently, and wouldnt you know, the critter leaks. Now, it seems to have issues with the draining system because when it leaks, the water is coming out around my middle pillars and if enough water gets in (from rain, carwash, a heavy layer of condensation), a small overflow drips from the roof onto my seat. The top of the pillar b4 the plastic will be damp/dripping and most the time my seat belts are wet and water is dripping from where they comes out. This car has also been in a wreck on the passenger side and damage was reported to the front pillar but since it leaks on both sides, I dont think that has to do with it. There is also alot of wind noise from the middle pillar when I drive over 50mph on the driver side. I’m a lil tight on $$$ right now, so is there anyway to fix it myself? (never had a car with a sunroof so i’m not sure what to do). If I did take it to some1 to get it fixed, what would they do?

These drain holes aren’t big and obvious, you are looking for small drain holes usually on the corners of the sunroof opening. The major problem is these drains tubes are not made out of metal but rubber or plastic. Therefore using 120 psi compressed air to blow them out is not a good idea. If you dislodge one or more of these tubes you are going to have a serious access problem, like ripping down your head liner to reconnect them. You need a tool called a "gold fish". Electricians use them to run wires through small conduit and you should be able to pick one up at Home Depot or Lowes.

Whats the likelyhood of roof damage in a 20-21 year old two story house?

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Sometimes I get a little concerned that the wind can do something the roof.
ps: also heavy electric storms/heavy winds mostly concern me with the roof.
i did have some leaks from the ceiling years ago and some from the sink. Thanks

You could be in the market for a new roof depending on the type of roof you have. Most 20 year old homes today are waterproofed with asphalt shingles. In most climates the average shingle lasts from 15 to 20 years.
Never patch a shingle roof with roofing cement. Roof cement is for flat applications only. My best suggestion to you would be to call a reputable roofer in your area to do a roof evaluation. Most honorable roofers will come out free of charge. If there are active leaks, and you want to fix them yourself, I would be more then happy to guide you through the repair.

Best of luck,
Rick

How long will shingles last on a roof?

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

what is the lifespan considering no hail damage.
my home was built 4 years ago. 30 years? sounds great!

Well it depends on the area of the country you live in . Extreme heat cooks shingles . You will rarely get the full life out of a shingle . A 20 yr shingle will last an average of 15 yrs sometimes less. A lot depends on the installation , shingle over reroofs dont last as long. Or if underlayment/felt paper was not used that takes years off the life of a shingle.

In your case hopefully they used a 30 yr shingle which should last 25 yrs. I know most states I work in now use a 25 or 30 year shingle on new work . If you have architectural shingles they are probably a 30 year if its a standard 3 tab probably a 20 year shingle

Rental Business: I have to submit my first claim due to Tornado damage?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Hi, the insurance company gave me contact information of a contractor they work with in order to fix roof damage I have.
What are the next steps? The contractor will send me the estimate or will the contractor send it to the insurance company? or to both of us? will I have to pay the deductible to the contractor dircetly or to the insurance company and they will pay him? Should/Can I try to negotiate the deductible with the contractor? - is it common? THANKS.

Every insurance company is different, however, the typical process is that the insurance company will write their own estimate and the contractor will as well and then they will try to come to an agreement and keep you in the loop during this process.

You can attempt to negotiate the deductible with the contractor, but keep in mind that this is called insurance fraud. Your legally responsible for the deductible; your insurance policy is a legal document.

Keep in mind that the insurance company recommended the contractor to you, but that typically does not mean that the insurance company will guarantee their work. Insurance policies do NOT nor do they EVER provide coverage for faulty or poor workmanship.

You will pay the deductible directly to the contractor. The insurance company will cover the remaining costs (not including upgrades or things specifically not covered under the policy).

How do I handle this dispute with the roofer?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

I recenty had my roof replaced from wind and hail damage. Allstate approved the repair an we signed the repair contract with the roofing company and the insurance co. accepted it. Work was completed and roofer was paid. He then submitted invoices to Allstate for re-payment of use of extra shingles. Allstate denied it. Then someone from the roofing company called Allstate pretending to me to say extra shingles were used. Allstate asked them to verify personal info and they hung up. Allstate called the # back and it was the roofing company. What re -course do I have?
Allstate told me directly about the call. They said someone called in saying they were me but hung when asked to verify my DOB. Allstate called the # back and it went to the voice mail of a roofing company employee. That’s how I know.
I guess I just have a problem with someone saying they are me for fraudulant reasons when they clearly are not. Who is to say that they dont somehow obtain the info needed to verify they are me? All Allstate asked for was my DOB. That is not a whole lot. If it worked, then it is my word against the roofers to say who actually called. I just have an issue with it.

"What re -course do I have?" - Well, none. They have not done anything to you. Allstate however could pursue him for fraud.

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

The storm garner media and Insurance Assoc. press. Neighbor brought to our attention today when his ins co sent adjuster to check his roof etc for damage. Accord to his adjust the damage was substantial and has occurred to many in the neighborhood. Will the prev owners insurance company be responsible since the damage would have occurred while the house was still under their coverage? Or do I contact my insurance agent?
The storm occured a week before the paperwork and closing on the house happened

Was the paper work finalized and Deed title transferred yet?
